We continued up the coast to Lund. Hwy 101 actually begins here at Mile 0, and ends at the tip of South America, where they see it the other way around. We stopped (and snacked) at a number of quaint seaside towns. We passed so many seaside coves and freshwater lakes that it was hard to tell what’s what.
We saw seals every day. And bald eagles. We learned they’re waiting for the seals to have pups (puppies?).
The coastline seems like one long oyster bed, as they are everywhere. You can't walk on the shore because there's no beach. Only oyster shells and rocks. Fishermen catch salmon and prawns. At one camp we met a couple who shared spotted prawns they’d caught and pickled. A tasty treat.
We took a zodiac tour of Desolation Sound, a marine Provincial Park. It’s a spectacular area only accessed by water, so it’s a boaters paradise. There are yachts from all over the world tucked into beautiful coves. Kayakers take 3-5 day trips and camp for free on platforms on some of the islands. We pulled into a small cove where we checked out some Dalls porpoises (and vice-versa).
Everywhere we go, people want to pet Pepper or are curious to our van. A nice way to meet locals and fellow travelers, who we share tips with.
Your pictures are spectacular! Sooo cool to see all that wildlife!!! Of course, Pepper would be the star! ⭐️
